"बेड़ू पाको बारो मासा, ओ नरणी काफल पाको चैत मेरी छैला"
According to Wikipedia it is an Uttrakhandi (for me, not Uttrakhandi but Kumauni) folk song which was written by Brijendra Lal Shah and first time came into existence in 1952.
Now the question is, why it is said "बेड़ू पाको बारो मासा" ?
Okay, let’s get started to find the answer.
"बेड़ू पाको बारो मासा, ओ नरणी काफल पाको चैत मेरी छैला"
The song is about a Kumauni woman, who is very keen to visit her maika (parent’s place) this vasant season, therefore she is trying to convince her husband about that. She is elaborating to her husband that why it is worth visiting her maika in this season because this is the time when Kafal (a Kumauni wild berry) ripen and it is not like bedu (a Kumauni wild berry) which can be eaten throughout the year.
I have gone a bit deeper into it by discussing to some of aama-bubus(Senior citizen) and come to a conclusion, as some people also wanted to know that like kafal, bedu also ripen in roundabout spring and summer season, then why it is said bedu pako baro masa( bedu ripen throughout the year)? So the conclusion is, there are two types of bedu first one is pakan bedu (ripen in summer) another one in adkan bedu (unable to ripen and is used as a vegetable). Latter, can be seen throughout the year and can be savored as a vegetable. Therefore the meaning of pako is ripen and cooks both.
